The Matrix Revolutions (2003) Movie Review

Well, I am finally gonna complete a trilogy of films after a long time. I barely finished trilogies or franchises in recent times. The last trilogy I completed was the "Fallen" trilogy back last year. I still have to complete the John Wick franchise, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible etc. So, I have a huge task ahead. Coming to the main point, the Matrix Revolutions was released just months after the release of the Matrix Reloaded. Many told me that it is the weakest of the bunch. But, I am gonna keep the speculations aside and watch this film with "0" expectations. So, how is the film? Let's find out:
The Matrix Revolutions is the third part of The Matrix franchise with Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Ann Moss and Lawrence Fishburne reprising their roles as Neo, Morpheus and Trinity respectively. The story is the war of Zion and the machines. Also, Neo tries to eliminate his arch-nemesis Agent Smith who has grown in power.

The screenplay of the film is meh. It continues to share a great plot from the second film and has more intensity from the second film. Where the second film has some great action, the third film lacks it except for the climax fight. Where the second film can be viewed as an entertaining popcorn flick, the third one is a CGI shlock fest leaving behind the climax. So, let me begin with the best part of the film. The new and improved slow motion technique leads to one of the Matrix's best fight scenes. It was staged perfectly and both actors give super good performances. But, the rest of the film is over-saturated with CGI and is dragged along with just fighting the machines. After watching this film I am finding some issues with the editing of the feature where most of the fun stuff is given to the second film and the third film is just.. The recurring actors from the second film maintain the same quality of the second film.

The technical aspects have some improvements and some downgrades. The BGM in the film is really good. Especially, the track that plays in the climax "Asathoma Sadgamya". Fun fact is that it is that infamous track that plays in all serials for whatever reason. The editing I found issues with. If more thought would have been put, the second film and the third film would have interchanged scenes and the glaring difference would not have been apparent. The cinematography of the film is excellent. This franchise has some of the best slow-motion work and has inspired many to follow it. The climax fight has new and improved slo-mo that is super sharp and crystal clear. The shot selection, OMG...
The action choreography of the film is also quite incredible. This is some of the best. The VFX of the film though gets dated very fast. The machinery of Zion feels and looks fake but they certainly have improved from the first one.

So, overall if you ask me what is your ranking of the matrix movies, I would say the original is the best by a fair margin, the second one is the next with its excellent action, the third one would be the weakest as it has nothing much left to say but to show a boring war. Feel free to post your rankings down below in the comments section. Until then, enjoy the Matrix Series.
