There are very few actors in the Hindi cinema who can act all nine emotions. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of them, so he deserved a movie in the lead role. I saw him telling he would like a romantic movie as his first film. Now that he got it(PARTLY), how is the film?I never actually saw the trailers for the movie. Let's see how the movie is.
Motichoor Chaknachoor is a middle class drama film (THAT'S A GENRE FOR ME, MORE ON THAT LATER) starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Athiya Shetty in lead roles. The story revolves around Pushpinder, a 36 year old Dubai return and Annie(ANITHA), a person whose ambition is to go to foreign and has rejected as many as 10 matches. The rest of the story is how they meet and what happens next.
The middle class environment has been showcased since 4-5 years of the debut of Ayushmann Khurrana(TORCHBEARER OF THIS GENRE). So, the director took his take on it and it's quite enjoyable. The screenplay is very good as the middle class environment just pops outta screen and touches our hearts. The setting of the story with 2 houses side-by-side with 8-10 characters with each having their own sense of relativity(NO SIMILAR CHARACTERS) makes us very comfortable as a viewer as we are sucked into the movie. But, the main issue here is not about the movie but around the movie. Since, there is saturation in this genre i.e., there are so many films like this, it just does not shine as it is just like them even if it has a different setting. But, it is a good movie nonetheless. Improvement though is required.
The acting is a surprise package. We all know about Nawazuddin Siddiqui but Athiya Shetty really came out of her comfort zone to deliver the most surprisingly performance of the year. Nawazuddin is very much in his elements as he delivers his lines with ease and the body language apt for the role. Vibha Chhiber, Navni Parihar as the mothers with different mindsets are absolutely excellent. The fathers have a smaller role but effective acting make them shine.
The technical aspects work together in tandem to give a good experience to us. The music although good is just so common. The editing is good as the movie is quick paced and the flow is upright. All other aspects are worth mentioning but this article would become longer than ever, so check the iMDB page for other details. The make up on Athiya Shetty though just stands out in the wrong way as it I could easily figure it out.
Overall, Motichoor Chaknachoor is a good-very good film according to me with great acting, good technical values and a heart touching experience. This film will be out on Netflix and until then it will be airing on Colors Cineplex (AND IT's HD CHANNEL). I recommend it to the families who are its target audience and for Nawaz fans like me.
