A movie which came right in the end of the year and at the beginning of my semester examinations, Matthu Vadalara was that film for me where I wanted to see it so badly but cannot due to obvious reasons. Now that it is on Amazon Prime Video, did this film reach the expectations I had, let's see.
This film will be a non-spoiler review as I definitely know many want to watch it.
Matthu Vadalara is a 2019 thriller comedy starring Sri Simha, Naresh Agastya and Satya in lead roles. The story revolves Babu Mohan, who is leading a miserable life and wants to go back to his village but due to his friends, he ends up in a complicated mess. The rest of the story is how he gets out of the mess and leads his merry life back again.
This story and screenplay is truly phenomenal. I can say that this film is one of the best thrillers in telugu of all time. It has shades of Hollywood movies and English TV shows and has inspirations from certain events in our city. With this, the writers show their fullest potential and make a screenplay of good laughs, good thrills and good reveals which I was very scared about. The lead actors are set in such a way that we are immediately sucked in. Sri Simha's character is an open slate acting as the audience's point of view. Satya's character is the influencer and takes the responsibilities of making the audience laugh. Naresh Agastya's character is the character to watch out for though. As it is a non-spoiler review, I request you to watch the movie to find more about him. There is a serial spoof in the film which is next level creativity. The movie's reveals have enough meat in them to keep the audience engaged. The climax of the movie is very good with the limited budget they had.
The acting is very apt and are one of the main reasons the movie works wonders other than the technical aspects. Sri Simha and Naresh Agastya, the new comers have equally good roles and very good performances partly due to the direction. Vennala Kishore, Brahmaji, Vidyullekha Raman, Pavala Shyamala and Atulya Chandra have less screentime but as they meaty roles, they show off their experience with some amazing performances.
More than the acting, the technical aspects have to be praised.
1. Ritesh Rana-The writer-director does a great job of handling actors and making a good thriller.
2. Kaala Bhairava - The music director- has no songs in it but BGM is catchy and thrilling.
3. Karthika Srinivas - The editor - perfect editing for this thriller, keeps us engaged
4. Cinematography - Suresh Sarangam - The screen popped up due to his cinematography
5. Production Design - A.S. Prakash - Very good sets with literally no budget
The Ravengers get a special mention for their VFX. It was fitting well despite its above par quality. The climax was in their hands and they delivered.
Overall, Matthu Vadalara is a perfect perfect watch. Comprising of great performances, perfect writing and direction with a meaty plot and the hand of great technicians the movie is a must watch for thriller movie lovers and any general audience, it just is that good. Without any further lag, the ratings---
